Working from her studio in Deptford, London, Hannah Bedford is renowned for her mastery of Granulation, an ancient jewellery technique where fine granules of precious metal are applied to adorn designs. This method, which dates back over 5,000 years, is particularly associated with the enigmatic creations of the Etruscans.

Today, few artisans practice true granulation, as it is an intricate and time-consuming craft. Hannah meticulously shapes each individual granule on a charcoal block before cleaning and carefully placing them to create her detailed designs. The process of bonding these tiny precious particles demands exceptional skill, precision, a steady hand, and above all, patience.

Sculptural waves of gold granulation may swirl together, encircling ocean-toned sapphires with intricate artistry. Fine granulation can weave between surfaces, linking necklaces and bangles, embellishing delicate earrings, or forming the intricate details of engagement and wedding rings. Tiny granules might be set with exquisite diamonds, or hidden beneath layers of delicate granulation—beautiful secrets known only to the wearer.
